Welcome to the Science Faculties

Prof. Yianni Attikiouzel

Welcome to the Science Faculties website. We hope that you'll take time to explore the many courses, research areas and activities that are on offer.

We pride ourselves on offering courses that are relevant in today's competitive and ever changing job market. We have strong links with industry, business and government and monitor closely the requirements they need for well qualified and work ready employees and then review the courses that we offer each year accordingly.

Murdoch's consistent five-star rating, student satisfaction, internationally renowned research output and excellent community relationships are other strengths that we are equally proud of.

Being a smaller university, we are able to provide students with flexible courses of study, allowing a mix of discipline areas which simply is not possible in larger institutions. Students are treated as individuals and this has been one of the key aspects of our other five-star rating in teaching excellence, where the personal interaction and camaraderie among staff and students are of utmost importance.

The Faculty's integrated, interdisciplinary research approach with partners in industry, government, hospitals and other universities nationally and internationally has resulted in Murdoch establishing world-renowned centres of excellence with commendable research output.

Such centres based on our campus offer an active, stimulating research environment, which augurs well for our students and staff as well as the industry and community who benefit from the fruits of the research output. Such centres include the Renewable Institute of Sustainable Energy, AJ Parker Cooperative Research Centre for Hydrometallurgy, UN International Environmental Technology Centre and the WA State Agricultural Biotechnology Centre.

The community - local, national and international - play a crucial role in the success of the Faculty and in return we offer support by hosting many international and national conferences which benefit both industry and the community. We also sponsor many events for local high schools, including organising workshops in all areas of science for high school students and teachers, the popular Murdoch University Electric Vehicle Challenge, the Big Night Out, which is a theatrical performance for students interested in pursuing physical sciences, and our very popular Science for School Student, Fairs.

I believe that many exciting opportunities and developments still lie ahead for science and engineering students. I hope that this website will provide you with a greater understanding of these opportunities and of our special culture and ethos here at Murdoch. Happy navigating!
